Short summary experiences
Having acted as Chair and member of ad-hoc DABs (in Eastern Europe and the Middle East), together with acting as Sole Arbitrator (on 8 occasions) and sole Adjudicator for statutory and contractual adjudications (on 3 occasions), I am experienced in the careful and real-time management of the parties and of the dispute resolution procedures so as reach a decision or award within strict contractually specified time limits. _x000D_My experience of participating on the ad-hoc DABs referred to above has also given me an appreciation of the importance of close collaboration and a good working relationship between DAB members, particularly where the 3 members originate from different cultural and/or professional backgrounds. _x000D_Similarly, my international experience acting on DABs (together with the international experience I have gained around the world as a consultant/expert and trainer on contracts based on FIDIC contracts) means that I have developed the ability to deal positively with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and from both legal and engineering backgrounds. _x000D_My extensive experience acting as sole Conciliator (on nearly 30 occasions) of construction disputes, many of which have been high-value and high-profile, has made me a good and effective evaluative mediator of construction disputes of different complexities. The vast majority of these disputes were settled during the mediation phase of the Conciliation. Similarly, on the 2 occasions I acted as Mediator, the disputes were settled and resolved under my facilitation. _x000D_I have found that this mediation experience has stood me in very good stead in helping the parties to avoid any potential disputes, and pro-actively encouraging the parties to engage in dispute avoidance, during my work as a member of the 3-member standing DAB referred to above (for a c. 5 year project in Western Europe).
