The corporate values of companies, whether they live up to them and what happens when they don’t will come under the spotlight at the next webinar in FIDIC’s 2024 series of online events.

The webinar, When it comes to culture does your company walk the talk? Making your corporate values mean something, which takes place on Tuesday 12 March 2024, has been organised by FIDIC’s Future Leaders Advisory Council and is set to examine an issue that is increasingly important for young professionals – company values and whether they are being lived up to by the firms that they work for or want to join.

In a recent survey of nearly 700 large companies, it was found that more than 80% published an official set of corporate values on their website. Senior leaders, in particular, like to talk about their company culture and over the past three decades, more than three-quarters of CEOs interviewed in a major business magazine discussed their company’s culture or core values – even when they were not specifically asked about it!

The webinar will look at whether firms are really living up to their values and what are the effects when they don’t? Making values mean something is crucial and with companies under ever more scrutiny over issues like ‘greenwashing’ and sometimes saying one thing on paper and doing another in practice, it’s arguably never been more important for firms to ‘walk the talk’ when it comes to their values.

Some of the issues up for discussion at the webinar include: -

Corporate values: Are they really being lived up to by firms and how are they being used to attract new staff?

Walking the talk, or . . . : What happens when companies don’t live up to their values and what effect does this have?

Greenwashing, bluewashing and pinkwashing: What are they and why do we need to call them out?

Getting it right: Best practice examples of companies that say what they do and do what they say.

ESG, social impact and social value: Why these things matter and how companies are promoting them to a wider audience.

FIDIC’s Future leaders Advisory Council has assembled a knowledgeable panel of international speakers to highlight the key issues to be discussed at the webinar. Speakers at the event are as follows.

  • Rodrigo Juárez, Consultant, FOA Consultores and Chair of the FIDIC Future Leaders Advisory Council (Mexico).
  • Dr Armando Castro, Associate Professor, Bartlett School for Sustainable Construction and Director of the Centre for Sustainable Governance and Law in the Built Environment at University College London (UK).
  • LaToya Ouna, Consultant on Infrastructure Procurement and Contracts and member of the FIDIC Future Leaders Advisory Council (Kenya).
  • Mauricio Gomez, CEO, EPTISA (Spain).
  • Harshita Jain, Director, Consulting Engineers Group (India).

The webinar will highlight the key importance of taking an all-round view of companies’ activities and look at how they impact on their vision and values. Increasingly, it’s clear that young people (and indeed many potential employees) are looking ever more closely at companies they are considering working for and they want to know that they are joining a decent firm that aligns with their own values. People just won’t stay with a company that doesn’t fit with their values so getting this right is crucial.
