FIDIC appoints new head of marketing and communications role

Aisha Gilani has been appointed as FIDIC's new head of marketing and communications.

International engineering federation FIDIC (the International Federation of Consulting Engineers) has appointed Aisha Gilani as its head of marketing and communications.

The newly created post, based at the FIDIC headquarters in Geneva, will oversee the development and establishment of a marketing and communications strategy to support the strategic goals, priorities and project plans of FIDIC and will lead the organisation’s marketing and communications group and ensure the provision of an all-round communications service to enable FIDIC to communicate effectively with members, the media and all other key stakeholders.

Aisha has more than 12 years’ experience working in communications, policy development and public affairs with UK government, Commonwealth and United Nations organisations, including several years working in Geneva. She holds bachelor and masters degrees in law and has completed a post-conflict reconstruction programme. Aisha has wide expertise in advocacy, strategic communications, press and public affairs, campaigns, civil society engagement and marketing.

Commenting on her new role, Aisha said: “I’m very excited about my new role at FIDIC, an organisation that represents an industry sector which makes a real difference to people’s lives. As someone who has always demonstrated a genuine and passionate commitment to making a positive difference to people’s lives and to pursuing tangible change on the ground, I was especially attracted by this role. I am looking forward to combining my policy, strategy and advocacy experience and applying this to increasing FIDIC’s profile and influence and to using my networking and relationship-building skills to make the right connections that FIDIC needs across government, civil society, and inter-governmental organisations on the international stage.”

Aisha's arrival as head of marketing and communications is the latest in a series of senior level appointments at FIDIC which will help to strengthen the organisation and the services it provides to its 102 member associations worldwide. The new arrivals follow the appointment of FIDIC’s new chief executive in the summer of 2018.

FIDIC chief executive, Dr Nelson Ogunshakin, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Aisha as FIDIC’s new head of marketing and communications. Communications and marketing are critical areas for FIDIC as we look to further increase our profile and build our already strong reputation in the global consulting engineering sector. Attracting someone with Aisha’s significant experience and skills is a big plus for FIDIC and I am very much looking forward to working with her and all our new senior staff in the months and years ahead.”
