Short summary experiences

I am a Chartered Engineer, Registered Chartered Arbitrator, Conciliator/Mediator, Adjudicator and Visiting Professor in Construction Law and Contract Administration at Trinity College Dublin. I am Past President of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (1987/1988); of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, world wide (2000/2001), and Past Chairman of its Irish Branch (1986/1989); Past Chairman of FIDIC’s Standing Committee on Professional Liability and its Task Committee on Construction, Insurance and Law. I was a member of the Board of Directors of the LCIA (1994 – 2007); and of the DIAC Board of Trustees, and Chairman of its Executive Committee (2004 – 2012). Presently, I am a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration & ADR, Paris. I was Elected Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering in 1999; in 2000 elected member of ICCA (now “Advisory Member” to the Governing Board); and in July 2015, I was appointed Chairman of the Irish Ministerial Panel of Adjudicators. I have won a number of professional awards for my work in engineering design and also in dispute resolution. Since 1972, I have acted as arbitrator, conciliator/mediator or DAB member on cases involving parties from over 50 jurisdictions. I am the author of: “Construction Insurance and the Irish Conditions of Contract”; “Risk and Insurance in Construction”; “The FIDIC Forms of Contract”; and numerous technical papers.
