This year’s FIDIC Asia Pacific Annual Conference taking place in Bali, Indonesia, will shine a light on technology and how the fast-moving areas of AI, machine learning and other digital developments are helping to transform the construction sector on a global scale.

Hosted by INKINDO, the National Association of Indonesian Consultants, the conference on 18-20 August 2025 is set to attract representatives from across the 23 member countries of FIDIC Asia Pacific and others from around the world. The conference theme, New Technologies, Transforming Engineering and Construction Industry, is particularly relevant and will see government officers, academics, consulting engineers and other industry professionals gathering in Bali to discuss some of the key digital challenges and strategies to address them.

The conference theme aims to explore the cutting-edge innovations reshaping the engineering consultancy sector, with a special focus on how these advancements can drive efficiency, sustainability and resilience. In a world increasingly impacted by technological disruptions, climate change and the challenges posed by the recent pandemic, the engineering and construction industry is having to evolve rapidly to remain competitive and responsible. With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and other digital tools, companies are being presented with unprecedented opportunities to enhance collaboration, improve operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The conference will address various issues revolving around regional collaboration, such as collaborative and remote work technologies, automation and robotics for data collection, construction, operations, maintenance and the integration of building information modelling (BIM) and advanced simulations for sustainability.

FIDIC Asia Pacific president Sudhir Dhawan said: “The theme of the conference is most appropriate considering the rapid technological changes happening in the world. With the advent of AI, BIM and other new technologies impacting all aspects of engineering and construction industry, it has become necessary for all professional engineers to embrace new technologies. At the conference we are expecting experts from different countries to impart knowledge in different fields and we will also be having B2B sessions so that business collaborations can be managed.”

INKINDO president Erie Heryadi added: “The conference and the networking session between national and international strategic business partners and consulting engineers will certainly create business opportunities. Our goal for the conference, through a series of detailed focus sessions, is to convene government officers, MDB representatives, business executives, industry professionals and other interested parties to explore the opportunities and challenges around the new technologies which will transform future engineering and construction practices.”

As well as exploring the multitude of AI and ML technology advancements, discussions at the FIDIC Asia Pacific Annual Conference will also place an emphasis on the governance of technology to ensure that these advancements are applied responsibly within the industry. As Indonesia continues to strengthen its economy and infrastructure, this event will serve as a vital platform for sharing insights, driving dialogue, building regional collaboration and shaping the future of the engineering and construction sectors across the Asia-Pacific region.
