Sessions 3: Bridging the skills gap – building capacity to adapt to change – 3.20pm CET to 4.10pm CET

Given that the social and economic challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic will mean big challenges for all firms working in the construction and infrastructure sector, this session will look at how the industry can best retain its talent and skills base and build the capacity it needs to flourish in the challenging times ahead. Some key questions to consider include: -

  • How can the industry ensure that the widely predicted economic downturn which could mean widespread job losses does not adversely affect a sector that is already facing skills shortages in a number of key areas?
  • How can the industry avoid losing its key people at a time of economic crisis?
  • How should the industry work more closely and increase collaboration to protect the sector’s skills through this crisis and beyond?
  • What steps can individual firms take to ensure that they maintain the human resources they need to continue to deliver for clients in challenging times?
  • How do we ensure that the developing world has the skills capacity to deliver the infrastructure it so desperately needs?
  • What role can global organisations like FIDIC play to improve things?
