FAQs: conference and events

Q: Why was the FIDIC International Infrastructure Conference 2020 in Geneva canceled?

A: The FIDIC board decided that it would cancel or postpone all of the organisation’s physical conferences and events to support the worldwide response to the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and furthermore suggests that FIDIC’s member associations and members limit or cancel/postpone large events where possible. For additional information, see our full statement - https://fidic.org/node/29035

Q: Will the FIDIC International Infrastructure Conference 2020 in Geneva be rescheduled?

A: No. Due to the size of the annual conference and expo it is not possible to reschedule to another date during 2020. An event of the size of the annual conference needs to be scheduled up to two years before the event in order to ensure adequate space in the convention centre and enough hotel rooms to accommodate all attendees. We have already announced next year’s conference dates, which are 12-14 September 2021, Geneva, Switzerland. Q: Will the FIDIC awards programme 2020 (projects and MAs) be postponed?

A: Yes, as the key aspect of the awards programme is the ‘Awards Ceremony’ held at our annual International Infrastructure Conference, the awards will be postponed to 2021. Please make sure to register on the following page in order to receive ongoing updates and information about the FIDIC awards programme for 2021- https://fidic.org/events/fidic-awards.

Q: Will FIDIC conferences and events be held in a virtual format?

A: We are exploring alternative virtual conference platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to improving people’s quality of life through the promotion of quality, integrity and sustainability in the infrastructure industry and the projects and services it delivers on a global scale. Additional information will be shared over the coming weeks about potential opportunities.

Q: Will I receive a refund for my conference registration now that some conferences are canceled?

A: To ease financial considerations that these cancelations may cause to our participants, FIDIC has instituted a flexible refund policy that gives registrants the option to apply their registration fee to next year, or receive a full refund. If you or your organisation have any questions, you can contact FIDIC at [email protected].
