Short summary experiences

Kamuzu Dam 1 Raising Project, MALAWI (Nov 2018 - Date): As the Project Manager & Dam Design Engineer I have played a leading role in assisting the Parties to reach an Amicable Settlement of disputes and claims arising from design changes to the spillway and outlet works, as well as adverse implications of COVID-19 lockdowns and travel restrictions which disrupted supply chains for materials, plant and equipment, as well as mobilisation of expatriate staff. I also liaise closely with the one-member Dispute Adjudication Board and I compile the Engineer’s Report for the quarterly DAB Site Visits and Meetings. Bwanje Dam Project, MALAWI (Oct 2016 - Oct 2018): As the Team Leader & Resident Engineer I played a key role in assisting the Parties to reach an Amicable Settlement of disputes and claims arising from design changes to the spillway and dam foundations. Bagatelle Dam Project, MAURITIUS (January 2012 - March 2016): The Contract Forms for execution of Works were the FIDIC Red Book Conditions of Contract, September 1999 edition. However, Clauses 20.2 to 20.4 regarding appointment and referral of disputes to the DAB were entirely deleted from the Contract. Execution of the project was severely hampered by major design changes for the spillway and foundation treatment where grouting was replaced by a cut-off wall. Fourteen claims arising from the major design changes were submitted and I was part of the Contractor’s team preparing heads of claims for the arbitration process. Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Project (LUSIP) Phase 1, ESWATINI (Jan 2004 - Dec 2011): As the Deputy Team Leader & Senior Resident Engineer I played a key role in assisting the Parties to reach an Amicable Settlement on disputes and claims arising from cost escalation particularly for steel and fuel due to the unusually high demand in South Africa during construction of facilities and stadia for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
