Big data advisor to Barack Obama to speak at FIDIC conference in Mexico

World-leading technology expert to address FIDIC delegates in Mexico City in September.

An advisor to US president Barack Obama on big data has been announced as one of the keynote speakers at this year’s FIDIC International Infrastructure Conference in Mexico from 8-10 September.

Stephen Brobst, chief technology officer for Teradata Corporation, will speak at the conference in Mexico City where, given his big data background, he is well placed to address a number of issues around the event’s main theme of “Technological Innovation Impacting the Industry”.

During Barack Obama’s first term as US president, Brobst was appointed to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, where he worked on the development of the big data strategy for the US government. He co-authored a report to the US congress which recommended that all federal agencies should have a big data strategy and initiated government investment in this important area for infrastructure.

With information now everywhere and ever-abundant, knowing what to do with data is a key challenge for firms working in the construction and infrastructure sector. Analytics is now a $200bn industry fuelled by the speed, scale and competition of the rising digital economy and as chief technology officer for Teradata Corporation, Brobst is uniquely placed to share his insights and knowledge to delegates in Mexico City.

In its everyday work, Teradata leverages all of the data, all of the time, so companies can analyse anything, deploy anywhere and deliver analytics that matter most to their business. Brobst’s firm calls it “pervasive data intelligence” and delegates can look forward to hearing the views of one of the world’s leading technology experts on how data can be better used and applied in the fast-changing infrastructure industry.
