FIDIC appoints new head of economic and strategic policy role

Economist Graham Pontin arrives at FIDIC as its new head of economic and strategic policy

International engineering federation FIDIC (the International Federation of Consulting Engineers) has appointed Graham Pontin as its new head of economic and strategic policy.

Pontin, an economist with more than ten years’ experience, is skilled in market research and policy formulation, including working for five years at the UK Association for Consultancy and Engineering, where he developed the successful ACE European Benchmarking Report, European CEO Conference and related thought leadership programme. Pontin has key expertise in economic, project finance, procurement, market analysis, databases, e-business, stakeholder engagement and policy formulation.

The newly created post will oversee the following three core areas of FIDIC’s work:

Economic research – conducting regular analysis of market drivers and producing research publications on the state of the market (membership, regional, national and sector analysis), benchmarking and best practice to support FIDIC campaigns and advocacy strategy.
Corporate policy – planning and organising the production of FIDIC policy statements and publications working with standing committees.
Thought leadership programme – leading and contributing to the development and delivery of conference, seminar and roundtable programmes, including the publication of high-level publications for the global consultancy and engineering sector.

Commenting on his new role, Pontin said: “As someone who has worked in the infrastructure sector for many years, I know the consultancy and engineering industry well and am delighted to be taking up this exciting position. In previous roles I have specialised in innovative research, opening markets and data analysis, providing accurate business intelligence covering a wide range of sectors and I look forward to applying this experience at FIDIC. I am particularly looking forward to working with the board, member associations, members and committee chairs as we develop FIDIC’s economic and policy programme.”

Pontin’s arrival as head of economic and strategic policy is the latest in a series of senior level appointments at FIDIC which will help to strengthen the organisation and the services it provides to its 102 member associations worldwide.

FIDIC chief executive, Dr Nelson Ogunshakin, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Graham as FIDIC’s new head of economic and strategic policy. He will be contributing to a key area of our work as we look to establish FIDIC as the ‘go-to’ organisation for all information and intelligence relating to the global consulting engineering sector. Given his background and experience in our sector, I am confident that he will take FIDIC’s policy work to another level and I am looking forward to working with Graham in the months and years ahead.”
