Positions held
1971 – 1985: worked as engineer in contracting, local authorities and consultancy including 2 years in France/Belgium (1972 – 1974). Experience in building, housing, civil infrastructure, roads maintenance, natural gas network and pumped storage scheme.
1985 – 2006: private practice as a civil engineering consultant under own name initially in the areas of natural gas, civil infrastructure and housing. Subsequently specialised as expert witness with extensive experience of litigation in the Irish courts.
2006 – Present: dispute resolution work the bulk of which is in the construction industry. Much of the work is in conciliation which is widely and successfully used in the Irish construction industry – it is essentially a facilitative process with the possibility for a binding or non-binding recommendation. Have dealt with a wide range of disputes in building/civil engineering including employer/main contractor, main contractor/subcontractor, joint-venture and partnership breakup, professional fees and operation/maintenance disputes.

Particular expertise in the Irish Public Works form of contract (PWC) – co-author of a paper dealing with interpretation of some of the most contentious clauses and chair of a committee which has redrafted the form of contract for use in the private sector.
Responsible for the production of several Engineers Ireland dispute resolution procedures specifically for mediation, expert determination and arbitration where there are 2 procedures one of which is 100 day procedure.
